In 1857 he became professor of saxhorn at the E´cole Militaire, and in 1869 became professor of cornet at the Paris Conservatoire.  In 1864 he published his Grande méthode complète pour cornet à pistons et de saxhorn which became the definitive instructional method on cornet playing of the nineteenth century and is still consulted today.
