The present arrangement for organ of the Adagietto from Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony follows the original text as closely as possible in order to retain the essential formative features typical of Mahler's music.

The orchestration for strings alone, plus harp, and the relatively uniform musical texture lends itself to an arrangement for organ solo which is likewise capable of capturing the work's essence and structure of long sustained notes.
