Ilja Hurník (1922 – 2013) was a Czech composer and pianist and became associated with the piano music of Leos Janacek.  He studied at the Prague Conservatory and later at the Prague Academy of Music.  He developed into something of a Renaissance man being an author, lyricist, and librettist, but composition was the main focus of his work.

He was on the staff at the Academy of Arts in Bratislava as well as at the Prague Conservatoire, where he taught a number of promising pianists and composers.  His output consists of a large number of works in all genres.
