This volume brings together contributions from researchers from Germany, Great Britain, Austria, Japan, South Africa, Barbados and the USA for the Internationalen Wissenschaftlichen Conference 2021 in Halle (Saale).  Presented are new research results on the topic "Redemption and Modernity. Handel's 'Messiah' between the late 18th and the 21st century".

Some miscellaneous contributions are included. In addition, the volume contains the keynote lecture "Held und Erlöser. Christusbilder in Oratorien von Georg Friedrich Händel bis Friedrich Schneider" by Andreas Waczkat, held in the context of the Handel Festival 2021.
