The Schütz Yearbook 2022 focuses on papers presented at the symposium "Heinrich Schütz, Landgrave Moritz and the Kassel Court", which took place in October 2022 as part of the International Heinrich Schütz Festival in Kassel.
Gerhard Aumüller summarises Schütz's tasks at the Kassel court, Michael Meyer devotes himself to Schütz's early work as organist and its significance for the later career of the court kapellmeister and composer. Vera Lüpkes informs us about the loss and change of function of art at the Kassel court, while Dörte Schmidt uses the example of the Italian repertoire cultivated by Landgrave Moritz to highlight the role of music as a diplomatic medium between the confessions. Finally, Holger Gräf pursues the question of the function of the Collegium Mauritianum and its personnel in the diplomacy of the Landgrave of Kassel, and Stefan Menzel provides information on figural music outside Kassel as well, namely in the curriculum of princely schools of the late 16th century. Walter Werbeck illuminates the relationship between Schütz and Kassel in the 20th century with a focus on Karl Vötterle and the early history of the Bärenreiter publishing house.
There are also two free contributions, one on "O bone Jesu" SWV 471 in the context of the Düben collection (Andreas Waczkat) and one on the anonymous Gospel dialogue "Freuet euch mit mir" SWV Anh. 6 (Werner Breig).
