Classic Boemici for Organ
The collection which includes samples from Czech organ music of the 18th and 19th century is part of the Musica Antiqua Bohemica series. It includes 16 compositions from the works of B. M. Cernohorský, J. Zach, J. Seger, J. I. Linek, F. X. Brixi, J. K. Vanhal, J. K. Kuchar, K. Kopriva, A. Rejcha and K. F. Pitsch.
The 18th century was witness to a great surge in solo instrument music, especially organ music, in the Czech lands due to the efforts of village teachers-musicians. The repertoire reflects a growing tendency to leave behind the pathos of the Baroque musical rhetoric.
The collection’s editor, Jan Racek, publishes the works of the old masters exactly in accordance with their manuscript form – with minute revisions in sections where the source was incomplete or unclear. Further details are included in the Preface and the Editor’s Notes (Czech, English, German).
