Weckmann Complete Freely Composed Organ and Keyboard Works

Matthias Weckmann (ca.1616-1674) was born in the town of Niederdorla near Mühlhausen.  His Father was a Lutheran minister who soon recognised his son’s potential and sent him to study with Heinrich Schütz in the Dresden court chapel.   Weckmann gradually established a formidable reputation among his contemporaries, founding the Collegium Musicum Hamburg and holding various important church and court positions in Germany and Denmark.  Primarily an organist he bridges the gap between the generations of Sweelinck and Buxtehude.

Our edition, meticulously edited by Siegbert Rampe, aims to offer amateurs as well as professional musicians and musicologists a musical text sufficient to meet the needs of performers and yet providing a complete discussion of the sources and their history and the problems related to performance.

- Comprehensive preface with a discussion on the sources and performance practice (Ger/Eng)

- Numerous facsimile illustrations

- Critical Commentary (Ger)
