Herchet Composition I for Piano

Jörg Herchet, born in Dresden in 1943, is a German composer and educator.  He studied composition at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Hanns Eisler Music Academy of Music) from 1962–1969 but his final dissertation was rejected by the Academy on the grounds that his avant-garde position was unworthy of a future Socialist composer.  Fortunately, he was subsequently accepted as a student by Paul Dessau to continue his compositional studies at the Berlin Academy from 1970-1974.  He later accepted a teaching post at the Dresden Conservatory where he became professor of composition in 1992.
