J S Bach Concerto for Violin in D minor reconstructed from BWV 1052 (Violin & Piano)

The present violin concerto has not survived in this form.  Rather this edition is a reconstruction of a lost concerto which has come down to us only in an arrangement as the harpsichord concerto in D minor (BWV 1052).

Unlike previous attempts which have been based purely on the text of the old Bach edition, this reconstruction by Wilfried Fischer relies on a method which has as its foundation the manuscript sources of the harpsichord version.  In addition, the D minor concerto, as in none of Bach’s other harpsichord arrangements, we are in the fortunate position of possessing no less than three arrangements of the lost violin version.
