Schubert Dances for Three Flutes (Playing Score)

In addition to his lieder, symphonies and sonatas, Franz Schubert also wrote more than five hundred dances for piano.  These pieces were occasional works that usually arose spontaneously in convivial surroundings, as is attested by his friends.

Schubert’s dances belong to the genre of “light” music and reflect the fashions of the period and as such straddle the boundary between improvisation and works intended for publication.  The arrangements in this volume provide an overview of his oeuvre and enable flutists to play music previously reserved for pianists.
