Lechner Deutsche Sprüche von Leben und Tod
Leonhard Lechner (ca. 1553-1606) was a German composer, and regarded as a leading exponent of choral music in the late 16th century. He was a chorister at the Munich court chapel under Orlando di Lasso who apparently regarded him as a most distinguished pupil. He gained employment as a schoolmaster in Nuremberg where he began composing as well as editing the earlier works of di Lasso. Around 1583 he was appointed Kapellmeister at Hechingen but left the post after year due to religious differences with his employer. In around 1597 he became Kapellmeister at the court in Stuttgart where he remained until his death.
He was a significant creative force in German choral music and composed several books of Lieder and church music (Motets, Masses, Magnificats and Psalms) which were widely known and respected in his day.
