J C F Bach Die Kindheit Jesu (Full Score, paperback)

Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (1732 – 1795), the ninth child of J S Bach’s marriage to Anna Magdalena, was a composer and harpsichordist.  Following studies with his father, he was employed as harpsichordist at Bückeburg in Saxony, later becoming concertmaster.  He composed in all genres, often adapting his style to accommodate the preference of his employer, William, Count of Schaumburg-Lippe, for Italian music whilst retaining many of the traits of his Father and brother C P E Bach.

Die Kindheit Jesu (The Childhood of Jesus) an oratorio foir solo voices, four-part chorus and orchestra is based on a poem by Johann Gottfried Herder and was performed for the first time in 1773 at the Bückeburg court.
