Snyder Dieterich Buxtehude - Leben, Werk, Aufführungspraxis
GERMAN TEXT

The standard work on Buxtehude now updated and in German - for organists, musicologists, friends of early music and libraries.

Over three hundred years ago, on 9 May 1707, the composer Dieterich Buxtehude, already highly esteemed in his time, died. The standard work by the American musicologist Kerala Snyder on Buxtehude's life and work is now published in German.
The volume is divided into three parts: The first part deals with Buxtehude's life and environment in 17th-century Denmark, where he grew up and began his professional life, and in Lübeck, where he was organist at St Mary's Church for nearly 40 years. In the second part, his music is presented:
Vocal compositions, works for keyboard instruments and sonatas for string instruments. The third part examines the sources, dates of composition and performance practice of his works.

The original English edition has been thoroughly revised by the author and translated by the renowned Bach researcher Hans-Joachim Schulze. The revision is based on archival materials recently returned to Lübeck and newly discovered sources on Buxtehude's music. The research literature since the publication of the original edition (1987) has been taken into account.
