Handel Gloria (HWV deest) (Full Score)

Handel’s Gloria in excelsis Deo (HWV deest) was previously unknown to scholars and now appears for the first time in print.  It was rediscovered in connection with a research project on Handel attributions that has been generously underwritten by the German Research Society since 1999.  According to the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales, this setting from the Mass is of uncertain authorship and is located both in score and in parts at the Royal Academy of Music, London.  A  close examination of the sources has revealed, however, that the Gloria is definitely by Handel and can be assigned to the composer’s early period on the basis of its borrowings.
