Josef Kajetán Tyl Op.62 (Full Score, paperback)
Dvorák, Antonín
Dvorak Josef Kajetán Tyl Op.62 (Full Score, paperback)
On September 8, 1841, Antonín Dvořák was born into modest circumstances as the first of eight children. His father was a butcher and innkeeper, but also a zither player — later even performing professionally. Dvořák’s parents recognized their son’s musical talent early on and supported him as much as they could.
He became an extremely versatile musician: singing, playing the violin and organ, and even performing as a solo violist. And, of course, he composed.
Quite unrelated: incidentally, on the same day, Charles J. Guiteau — later known for assassinating U.S. President James A. Garfield in 1881 — was also born. Guiteau ended up on the gallows.
All of this was already history when Dvořák arrived in the United States in 1892. He would remain there until 1895 and compose some of his most outstanding works during this period.
