Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674), Italian composer and music teacher, was one of the greatest masters of the early Baroque and is chiefly remembered for his oratorios and secular motets and cantatas.  His music was widely disseminated and he was therefore highly influential in musical development in northern European countries even though it appears he never left Italy.
