When two people come to the piano it is like a little concert, if only for them. Instead of mere arrangement, it should be at least a little composition. So the theme sometimes shows up for the first player and at other times for the second, and sometimes it is scattered so that each player gets only one note of the melody.
Since this work is a collection and not a cycle, it is possible not only to play each piece through and go on to the next but also freely select and combine them. (Peter Eben).
