Handel Organ Concerti II (Full Score, hardback)
Two Concerti HWV 295 and HWV 296a - Six Concerti Op.7 HWV 306-311

The two Concertos for Organ and Orchestra HWV 295 and 296a were composed early in 1739.  In 1740 the publisher John Walsh issued a second set of six organ concertos, consisting of arrangements for solo keyboard of the two new concertos (HWV 295 and 296a), and of four of the concerti grossi Op.6.  Handel seems to have composed these two concerti for his own use in forthcoming oratorio performances rather than for any planned new series of publication requested by Walsh.

Two years after Handel’s death, Walsh issued a third collection of organ concertos (HWV 306-311) as Op.7.  It is likely that John Christopher Smith junior, who had assisted the blind Handel during his last years and had a detailed knowledge of his autographs, was the instigator of the edition.  It is unlikely that Handel himself intended to publish a further set of organ concertos, and the anonymous editor has some difficulty in assembling a set of six.
