- Series Musica Antiqua Bohemica 26

František (Franz) Xaver Brixi (1732 – 1771) was a Czech classical composer of the 18th century, the son of composer Simon Brixi.  Born in Prague, he received his early education at the Piarist Gymnasium at Kosmonosy where his teacher was the influential composer Vaclav Kalous.

Following his studies he returned to Prague where he established himself as one of the city’s most famous organists and prolific composers.  He composed in all genres, combining Czech folk styles with the latest Italian influences coming from Vienna.  His organ concertos are his best known pieces today.
