Hurnik Partita in A Major for Flute & Piano
Ilja Hurník (1922 - 2013) was a Czech composer and essayist. Hurnik studied at the Prague Conseravtoire (composition under V. Novak, piano under V. Kurz), later also at the Musical Academy. As musician, he was a recognized interpreter of Debussy and Janacek's piano works. In his composition, he was influenced by traditional music of his native Silesia (on Czech-Polish border), also impressionism, neoclassicism and New Music. Step by step without big style changes, he developed a very specific musical language of his own.
The Partita in A major in six movements - Introduzione, Siciliano, Gavotta, Sarabanda, Menuet, and Gigue - is a modern Czech interpretation of the classic dance form.
