Mozart Piano Sonata in C major (K.545) (Facile)

In his thematic catalogue, under the date June 26, 1788, Mozart listed the Sonata K.545 as “A little piano sonata for beginners.”  The work is better known today under the title Sonate facile [“easy sonata”], which traces back to the posthumous first edition of 1805, issued by the Bureau d’Arts et d’Industrie in Vienna.  Since the autograph is lost, the New Mozart Edition bases its text on this first edition, but also refers to the nearly contemporary editions of Johann André (Offenbach, 1805) and Johann Cappi (Vienna, 1809).

For the first time an Urtext edition of Mozart’s Sonata in C major (»facile«)is available with tried-and-tested fingering provided by well-known pianist Matthias Kirschnereit.  The edition is based on the authoritative Urtext of the New Mozart Edition along with a Foreword on the work’s genesis, sources, and performance suggestions.
