Fantini Playing Pieces (Trumpet & Piano)

Girolamo Fantini, born around 1600 in Spoleto, was an Italian trumpeter and wrote one of the first methods for trumpet which contains the first pieces ever written for trumpet and keyboard.  Little is known about his early life, and then in 1631 he was appointed as chief court trumpeter to Ferdinando II, Duke of Tuscany.  He appears to have travelled widely, including to Rome where he gave a concert and was accompanied by the famous organist of St. Peter's in Rome, Girolamo Frescobaldi.  There is little evidence of his whereabouts after 1638 until 1675 where his presence was noted, for the last time, in Florence and it is assumed he died shortly after this.
