Schmitt Preparatory Exercises Op.16 for Piano
Aloys Schmitt (1788 – 1866) was a German composer, pianist and music teacher and was born in Erlenbach am Main, moving to Frankfurt in 1816 where he remained all his life except for short stays in Berlin and Hannover. He studied composition with André at Offenbach and in 1824 was appointed court composer in Munich.
He composed operas, oratorios, and church music but is principally known for his numerous piano compositions, including 4 piano concertos, several piano quartets, piano trios, several attractive character pieces for piano, and studies for school. The Preparatory Exercises Op.16 remain important technical studies.
