Rhythmical Etudes for Bassoon by professor at the Prague Conservatoire and later Prague's Academy of Music, Karel Pivonka (1907–1986), is a key work for anyone studying the bassoon.  Apart from rhythmical and purely technical issues, the etudes also encourage the student to try out a colourful range of different expressions.
