The Schütz Yearbook 2020 contains lectures given at the symposium "Representational Music in Residences of the Schütz Period" as part of the International Heinrich Schütz Festival Karlsruhe 2019.
The thematic scope includes music as a medium of representation in theology (Frank Kurzmann) and political contexts (Elisabeth Natour, Arno Paduch, Derek Stauff), as well as a contribution on current research discourses (Harriet Rudolph) and one on the types of court singer (Thomas Seedorf). This theme is supplemented by contributions on the Kassel court chapel (Gerhard Aumüller) and on Johann Grabbe (Vera Lüpkes), as well as by two texts by Joshua Rifkin: one on Schütz's music dispatch to the Kassel court of 1635, another with fundamental reflections on the dating and source situation of Schütz's Osterdialog SWV 443. The presentation of seven new Schütz documents (in the contribution by Jörg Brückner) rounds off the volume.
