Mozart composed the majority of his works for solo strings and orchestra during the years 1773 – 1779 including the three single movements presented here: Adagio in E major K261, Rondo in B-flat major K269 and Rondo in C major K373.

They were most likely composed for the esteemed violinist Antonio Brunetti, an Italian who succeeded Mozart as concertmaster of the orchestra of the Archbishop of Salzburg.  It is possible that the Adagio in E major K261 may have been composed (at Brunetti’s request) as a replacement movement for one of Mozart’s concertos for violin
