Boismortier Six Concertos for five Flutes Op.15 Volume II (Score & Parts)

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, who was also called the French Telemann, was born in Thionville on 23 December 1689 and died in Roissy-en-Brie on 28 October 1755.  After living in Metz, Nancy, Lunéville and Perpignan, he settled in Paris in 1722.  There he composed operas-ballets, vocal music and secular cantatas, but obtained his most lasting success with his instrumental compositions including numerous works for flute such as the Concertos for five flutes presented here.

The term “concerto” should not be understood here as a solo concerto, but rather as a “consort” or ensemble piece for similar instruments.   Such compositions for several instruments of the same type enjoyed a great popularity in Boismortier's time.
