J Ahrens Sonata for Viola and Organ

Joseph Johannes Clemens Ahrens (1904 - 1997) was one of the leading German composers and organists of the 20th century.

After early studies in organ and choral music, in 1925 he moved to Berlin to continue his studies at the Akademie für Kirchen- und Schulmusik where he attended masterclasses by Wilhelm Middelschulte.  He held various posts as organist including at the Berlin Philharmonic before becoming professor at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik in 1945 where he remained until 1969.
