Schoeck Sonata for Violoncello and Piano

Othmar Schoeck (1886 - 1957) was one of the most important Swiss composers of the first half of the 20th century remembered mainly for his large output of songs.  It is said that shortly before he died he heard a performance of his earlier Cello Concerto and was inspired to begin work on a sonata for the instrument.

This sonata was intended by the Composer to have four movements, but only three were completed when he died.  A few dynamic instructions, slurs and crescendo marks had to be added to the second and third movements of which no fair copies are available.  Dynamic instructions were engraved in italics, slurs and crescendo marks indicated by dashes.
