Hoffmeister Sonata in C major Op.13 for Flute (Violin) and Piano
Like so many other composers, Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754-1812) began by studying law before he devoted himself entirely to music and became one of the most highly popular composers of his time. His numerous works for flute, his many string quartets and other chamber works, piano sonatas, songs, operas and symphonies are testimonies to a musical output which was in the best sense entertaining, charming, and well written for voices and instruments.
Besides his compositional activity, Hoffmeister made a name for himself in Vienna, and subsequently in Leipzig, as a publisher of works by his friend Mozart, and by Haydn, Beethoven, and later J.S. Bach as well.
