Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, who was also called the French Telemann, was born in Thionville on 23 December 1689 and died in Roissy-en-Brie on 28 October 1755. After living in Metz, Nancy, Lunéville and Perpignan, he settled in Paris in 1722. There he composed operas-ballets, vocal music and secular cantatas, but obtained his most lasting success with his instrumental compositions including numerous works for flute with other instruments such as the Sonata presented here.
