Loeillet (de Gant) Sonatas for Recorder (Flute, Violin, Oboe) & Basso continuo I Op.1/1-3
Jean Baptiste Loeillet (1688 – c.1720) was a Belgian composer born in Ghent who wrote many works for recorder. He was a member of the large and musical Loeillet family and styled himself Loeillet de Gant to avoid confusion with his cousin, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet of London (1680 – 1730), who was a well-known musician and composer in London.
The three sonatas in this publication are taken from the edition engraved and published by Roger-Amsterdam under the title of “XII Sonates à une flûte et Basse Continue” as Op.1. The very well-preserved copy is the property of His Highness the Prince of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, Rheda.
