Gragnani Sonatina Op.6 for Guitar
Filippo Gragnani (1768 – 1820) was an Italian guitarist and composer.
Born in Livorno Gragnani came from a family of notable luthiers and musicians. He studied music in his home town with Giulio Maria Lucchesi, initially the violin then later devoting himself to the guitar, becoming known as a virtuoso performer.
His first published works for guitar and chamber music appeared in Milan at the beginning of the 19th century. After travelling to Germany he eventually settled in Paris in 1810 where he became friends and a pupil of Ferdinando Carulli to whom he dedicated three of his guitar duets and who in turn also dedicated some duets to Gragnani.
The two-movement Sonatina Op.6, is a medium-length form of the late classical period suitable for performance by more advanced guitarists.
