Schlee String Quartet No. 2 Op.21 (Parts)
Thomas Daniel Schlee (1957 - 2025) was born in Vienna. He studied organ, composition and musicology in Vienna and Paris with Michael Radulescu, Jean Langlais, Olivier Messiaen and Francis Burt. As an organist he performed throughout Europe and made radio programmes, CD recordings, and worked as a juror in international competitions and as an editor.
From 1990-1998 he was music director of the Brucknerhaus, Linz and artistic director of the International Bruckner Festival, and from 1999-2003 deputy director of the International Beethoven Festival, Bonn. He was director of the Carinthian Summer Festival between 2004-2015.
As a composer, Schlee wrote many works for orchestra, vocal and chamber forces, as well as works for and with organ. In 2005 he was elected Officier des Arts et Lettres, in 2010 was awarded the Austrian cultural prize of music, and in 2012 the Austrian “Ehrenkreuz" for Arts and Science.
