Boccherini String Trio in G major Op.54 No.2 (Parts)

Of the six string trios that Boccherini wrote in 1796, four (Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6) were published in Paris by Pleyel as Op.44 and later in the collected works issued by Janet.  In Boccherini’s autograph catalogue, whose opus numbers differ quite considerably from those that were arbitrarily assigned to his works by publishers, this collection of trios bears the number 54.

The present trio is said to have been a special favourite of the composer.  Otherwise he would hardly have arranged it for two different ensembles – once as a violin duet (published by Pleyel as Op.46) and again as a string quartet.
