Jelinek Suite in A major for Guitar Solo

During the lifetime of Ivan Jelinek (1683-1759), arrangements of guitar music for lute and vice versa were common.  Therefore, according to contemporary practice, Stanislav Jurica made a transcription for guitar of Jelinek's lute Suite in B flat major, preserved at the beginning of the manuscript Musica sopra il liuto.

Ivan Jelinek, Bach and Handel's contemporary, was an organist in the Benedictine monastery sv. Jan pod Skalou (St.John under the Cliff).  His music follows in six movements (Aria, Bourree, Gavotte, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet) a favoured sequence of the baroque dance suite.  For this reason, the composition has been transcribed into A major - a more suitable key for guitar - and supplemented with two versions - with and without ornamentation - of the initial Aria.

The piece is intended, similarly as in the times of its origin, for those interested in baroque dance music and private music making.
