Mozart Symphony in D (K.196/K.121) (Full Score)
Overture to La finta giardiniera K.196 and K.121

As was customary at the time, the Symphony in D major, Overture to K. 195 plus K. 121, (207a) consists of the overture to the opera buffa La finta giardinina (first and second movements) and a newly composed finale.  The opera was written for the following Carnival season, a project that took Mozart not to Milan but, for the first time, to Munich, where La finta giardiniera was roundly applauded at its première on 13 January 1775.  The finale is thought, on the basis of the handwriting, to have originated in the spring of 1775; but the paper stems from Mozart’s third Italian joumey and was used by him between November 1772 and the beginning of 1773.  Was the finale an earlier composition pressed into service for the operatic sinfonia, or was it written down after the opera on earlier manuscript paper?
