No sources for the Symphony in F major K.76 exist apart from the edition published in the old Mozart Complete Edition.  The set of parts on which this edition was based came from the musical archive of the publishers Breitkopf & Härtel and was destroyed during the Second World War.  As a result, our edition must rely entirely on the old Complete Edition text.  Scholars have advanced various theories regarding its date, none of which can be verified in the absence of source material. It has even been proposed that the work is by Mozart's father, Leopold.
