Hauptmann Three Motets for Mixed Chorus (SATB)
Moritz Hauptmann (1792–1868), was a German music theorist, teacher and composer. Following early studies in music he completed his education as a volinist and composer with Louis Spohr. He held a number of posts with private families before joining Spohr's orchestra in Kassel in 1822 as a violinist.
In 1842 he bcame cantor of the Thomasschule in Leipzig - one of his predecessors had been Johann Sebastian Bach - and thereafter a professor of the newly formed Leipzig Conservatory.
He composed some 60 pieces - largely instrumental during the first half of of his life before writing exclusively for the voice in later years.
