Three Violin Duets of the Viennese Classical Era
"Naturalness and consistency in the sequence of ideas, and regular treatment of the instrument, are certainly not inferior qualities of such compositions, which are initially dedicated to instructive entertainment, as is the case with most violin duets."
In a review published in 1813, the famous Leipziger Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung (AmZ) described string duets by Peter Hänsel in this way. The three violin duets presented in this edition - including one of the works discussed in the AmZ - represent the Viennese string duet over a period of about 50 years.
- Compositions in several movements by Peter Hänsel, Franz Anton Hoffmeister and Wenzel Pichl
