Trio Sonata in D major for 2 Flutes (Violins), Bassoon or Violoncello (ad lib) and Basso continuo (Score & Parts)

Johann Adolph Hasse (born 1699 in Bergedorf near Hamburg, died 1783 in Venice) is one of the composers of the 18th century who bridge Italian and German music.  To the music of his native land he owed his independence of part-writing, richness of harmony and motivic counterpoint, while the ideal of Italian music is heard in Hasse’s luxuriant, song-like melody and his lively rhythms.

Hasse is chiefly remembered as a representative of the Neapolitan opera school.  The trio sonata published here will serve to show that the instrumental music of “il Sassone” (as he was known in Italy) is also significant.  The edition is based on the manuscript parts preserved in the Dresden Landesbibliothek.
