Kirnberger Two Sonatas in G major & G minor (Flute & Basso continuo)
Johann Philipp Kirnberger - also known as Kernberg - born in Saalfeld, Thuringia in 1721, died in Berlin 1782.
He is the author of many voluminous works on musical theory, e.g. The Art of Clean Composition. He is said to have been a pupil of Johann Sebastian Bach. His compositions include, besides Latin Masses, Fugues, Harpsichord Concertos and Solos for Flute and Violin.
The present two Sonatas with the original title:
SOLO FOR THE TRANSVERSE FLUTE
BY KIRNBERGER
were published with several others by F. W. Birnstiel in Berlin and are still preserved in the Lower Saxon State University Library in Goettingen.
