Scheibe Ueber die Musikalische Composition (Facsimile, hardback)
Erster Theil. Die Theorie der Melodie und Harmonie. Reprint of the Leipzig edition of 1773

Comprehensive work from one of the most important music writers of the 18th century with detailed index.

Johann Adolph Scheibe (1708-1776), author of the "Critischen Musicus", was one of the most important music writers of the 18th century.  At the end of his versatile compositional and journalistic career, however, he presents with his book "Ueber die Musikalische Composition (On Musical Composition)" a systematic synopsis of music and its foundations.

He also deals with other approaches, in particular with the Theorie Rameaus, and their reception in German speaking countries.  Only the first part was completed.   A detailed index as well as a list of quoted writings allows direct access to specific topics and people.
