Heinrich Ehmann was born on June 5, 1938 in Freiburg im Breisgau and died on June 28, 1996 in Hagen. He studied church music from 1956 at the Westfälische Landeskirchenmusikschule in Herford, at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie in Detmold with Prof. Johannes Driessler and later with a focus on organ and composition at the Musikhochschule Köln with Prof. Wolfgang Stockmeier.
His compositional work includes around 60 works for organ, orchestra, choir and brass, including the oratorio "Es sei" (1977), songs based on poems by Ernst Meister (1979), the orchestral work "Hommage" (1982) and the composition "Totentanz" for percussion and organ (1983).
