Rameau Actes de ballet entre ville et cour (Symphonies) (Full Score, paperback)
This volume brings together the instrumental pieces from three “Actes de ballet” by Jean-Philippe Rameau, the first versions of which date from the same period: “Pigmalion” (1748), “Zéphire” (1748–1759) and “La Guirlande” (1751). These are three highly varied, colourful ballet-operas which are distinguished – naturally – in particular by the central role of dance.
“Zéphire” was never performed during Rameau’s lifetime and never progressed beyond the manuscript stage (despite undergoing several revisions). The situation is different for the opera “Pigmalion”, which very quickly took on its final form. In contrast, Rameau worked on the score of “La Guirlande” for a comparatively long time, fundamentally revising the work twelve years after its premiere in 1751.
This edition is based on the Rameau Complete Edition, for which all accessible sources have been evaluated. It is equally suitable for scholarly research and practical performance.
