Mozart’s Church sonatas in a variety of scoring for strings, winds and organ were intended for the religious services in the Salzburg cathedral. Since the mass in Salzburg was not allowed to last longer than 45 minutes, the sonatas were conceived to take up no more than two or three minutes time. Mozart composed them as Allegro movements in a sonata form "en miniature”.
