Telemann Suite in G minor (TWV 41:g4) for Violin (Oboe) & Basso continuo
The present Suite in G minor for violin or oboe and thorough-bass is taken from a copy in the Staatsbibliotkek Berlin – Preussischer Kulturbesitz of the first German musical periodical ‘Der getreue Music-Meister’, published by Telemann himself. The suite appears at the beginning of the third ‘Lektion’ (lesson) and is divided between several issues.
The “lessons” published every two weeks in Telemann’s music periodical “ Der getreue Meister” (The Faithful Music Master) are the first known examples of musical pieces in instalments. Telemann thus satisfied the needs of the music-loving public by constantly offering new pieces for different instrumental combinations for domestic music making.
